I am using it to get internet acces to my tv. This was very handy and a snap to get it going, you only have to plug it in. I am glad this exists and I could avoid cable lines all ove the house.
Plug and play; and they work on my second floor, as well as in basement, where the unit primarily supports my son's Xbox Live flawlessly. Bought two sets of these and have them set-up with 3 blu-ray players and a gaming system all over the house. Units run a little hot, but so far nothing but solid performance.
No luck. The devices did not work "out of the box" at all. The Netgear XE102GNA Wall-Plugged ethernet extenders (I bought a pair) never worked for me. I wasted four hours on this supposedly plug-and-play device. I googled the internet for ideas and tried them.
A great no muss, no fuss solution. Walked upstairs, cabled the second one to my Mac ethernet port and plugged that one into the wall. The extenders come in pairs. Done. Running an ethernet cable from the first floor to the second turned out not to be an option (think cinder block walls).
No S/W setup, no configuration, nothing. I cabled the first one into my router and plugged it into a wall power outlet on the first floor. My son-in-law mentioned products that extend your network via the home electrical wiring. I recently moved and had to start from scratch with my home Ethernet. I purchased the Netgear XE102GNA Wall-Plugged Enet Extender with some trepidation, as I am not familiar with this technology. From the time I opened the package to the time I had an ethernet connection to my second floor Mac was about two minutes, most of which was spent walking from the ground floor to the second floor.
Voila.
I think, because of the way houses are wired through the breaker box, that it only works on half the recepticles in any ginen room. Set up is as easy as claimed. I totally recommend this product over a wireless network for desktops, games and DVR's. Unbelievable difference. VERY HAPPY. If it doesn't work on the first plug you try go to another recepticle.
As usual with everything I've puchased through Amazon, it was delivered earlier than the estimate. Tried using a wireless network for my son's Xbox360, but he kept complaining about lag and connection issues and he wasn't that far from the router., so I thought we would try one of these. Works GREAT, just like an ethernet cable plugged into the router. That's not a bad thing though.
